Few people can say they have spent nearly six decades helping shape a community. Having celebrated his 100th birthday in May this year, Dave Edwick’s story is one of service, leadership, friendship and an unwavering commitment to the people of Esperance.
Born in 1926, Dave’s career with the Post Office began during World War II and would span more than 40 years. Along the way he worked in communities across Western Australia before returning to Esperance in 1970, a town he and his wife Joan planned to stay in for just five years.
More than 55 years later, Esperance is still home.
While many know Dave through his career as Post Master, his greatest legacy may be the countless hours he has dedicated to community service. Through Rotary and Freemasonry, Dave has helped support and strengthen the Esperance community for generations.
One of his most significant contributions was helping establish what is now Esperance Masonic Village. As chair of the original fundraising committee, Dave played a leading role in bringing the vision to life. Today, at 100 years old, he continues to serve as the village’s voluntary caretaker, a role he carries out with the same pride and dedication that has defined his life of service.
When asked about the secret to a long and active life, Dave’s answer is characteristically humble. He credits a good life, hard work, family and the friendships built throughout the years.
Now celebrating a century of life, Dave’s story reminds us of the difference one person can make through a lifetime of service. His contribution to Esperance, to Freemasonry and to the residents of Esperance Masonic Village has left a lasting legacy that continues to be felt today.
Recently featured on ABC Radio Perth’s Morning Show, Dave reflected on the experiences, friendships and community spirit that have shaped his remarkable journey.
